Our Studio
Sohum YOGA center, located in the Garberville / Redway community of Southern Humboldt County, California, offers classes in many styles and levels of yoga including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Sivananda, and Svaroopa. Other classes include Pre-school Music and Movement, and Body, Mind, and Spirit Exercise with weights. We also offer a Friday night group chant for PEACE, hosted by Bruce Burger, founder of the renowned Heartwood Institute. Sohum Yoga was created in 2002 by Gayna Uransky and Toni Jones, and has enjoyed a loyal following of clientele and teacher contributors for many years.

About Gayna
Gayna’s study of yoga began in 1970 with a Hatha yoga class in Maryland. She then moved to San Francisco where she studied Iyengar yoga with
Judith Lasater, Mary Dunn, and Ramanand Patel for many years, traveling several times to Pune, India to study directly with B.K.S. Iyengar. She
is a Certified Iyengar teacher. She has also studied Ashtanga yoga with
K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India.

For 17 years she taught daily yoga
classes at Heartwood Institute in Northern California. She teaches a
200-hour Yoga Alliance-certified Yoga Teacher Training at Heartwood
Institute. In 2002 she and a friend opened "sohum YOGA" center in
Garberville, California. She also teaches an annual week-long Yoga
Intensive in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and is perhaps the very first yoga
teacher from the US to teach a yoga Intensive in Mexico. She started
teaching there in 1986.Gayna teaches several classes each week at the sohum YOGA center.
Choice of Classes
Since the opening of the sohum Yoga center several other teachers have joined the center and we now offer a variety of yoga classes ranging from beginning to advanced levels. We also offer activities and excercise programs for parents and their young children too. See schedule of classes page (link above) for more information!
Whether you are a novice who has wanted to try yoga as a relaxing and theraputic practice, or you are an intermediate or experienced person looking to join a group session on a regular basis, we welcome you to come and visit any or all of our morning and evening classes.
